Zhuhai Museum (珠海博物馆, Zhūhǎi Bówùguǎn) is the city's history in one building: a dramatic white stacked-box structure by German architects gmp, opened in 2020 beside the Zhuhai Planning Exhibition Hall, with the Sun & Moon Shell opera house (日月贝) just across the water. It's free, air-conditioned, and — unlike most of Zhuhai's seafront — not packed at midday.
Three permanent exhibitions carry the show. On the third floor, Zhuhai History: A Maritime Chronicle (珠海历史·海洋纪事) traces 6,000 years of the city's story on a huge circular timeline — the Maritime Silk Road, the port's rise, and figures like Rong Hong (容闳), the first Chinese graduate of an American university. The second floor's Traditional Arts & Folk Culture (传统艺文·民俗文化) covers clan families, fishing-village life and the Tanka (疍家) boat people who once lived on the water. Downstairs, Shared Memories (共同的记忆) charts the modern city — the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, Hengqin and the China International Air Show. The collection holds 16,300 pieces; don't miss the black-glazed Yuan-dynasty meiping vase painted with dragons and phoenixes.
Plan 1.5–2 hours. Entry is free but timed-slot booking is required — reserve via the museum's WeChat mini-program up to three days ahead (tickets released at 7 PM), or register at the front desk with your passport. Group visits need a day's notice. Open Tue–Sun 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30, closed Mondays. Buses 2, 3, 13, 20, 25 and 69 stop at Haihong Terminal a short walk away (¥1–2); the Lovers Road sightseeing bus and free on-site parking also work. Pair it with the Sun & Moon Shell, Haitian Park and the beach across the road.

- Book a free timed slot up to 3 days ahead via the Zhuhai Museum WeChat mini-program (tickets release at 7 PM daily) — walk-ins can register at the front desk with a passport, but weekends and holidays fill up fast. Weekday mornings beat the school groups. No cafeteria inside: eat along the seawall or at Haitian Park across the road. Combined visit with the Sun & Moon Shell (日月贝), Haitian Park and the beach works well in one afternoon. Fully air-conditioned — a good refuge from Zhuhai's summer heat and typhoon rain.
