Huandao Road Coastal Path (环岛路)

Huandao Road (环岛路, Huándǎo Lù) is a 30km coastal road that circles Xiamen Island, offering some of the best cycling and walking in the city. The road passes beaches, sculpture parks, fishing villages, and offers constant views of the Taiwan Strait.

What to Do

Cycling — Rent a bike at any point along the road (¥20-30/$3-4 per hour). The most scenic section is from Baicheng Beach (白城沙滩) to Zengcuo'an (曾厝垵) — about 10km of dedicated bike path along the coast.

Baicheng Beach (白城沙滩) — A popular beach at the western end of the road. Great for swimming, beach volleyball, or just relaxing.

Zengcuo'an (曾厝垵) — A former fishing village turned artsy neighborhood with cafes, bars, and galleries. Good for a coffee break.

Sculpture Park (雕塑公园) — Features outdoor sculptures along the coastline.

Practical Tips

• Best time for cycling: early morning (before 10 AM) or late afternoon (after 4 PM)
• The full 30km loop takes about 3-4 hours at a leisurely pace
• Bike rental stations are frequent along the route
• Bring water and sunscreen — there's little shade
• The sunset from the eastern section is spectacular
