The Orchid Pavilion (兰亭) is where Wang Xizhi (303-361 AD) wrote the Preface to the Orchid Pavilion - the most famous calligraphy work in Chinese history. The site includes a calligraphy museum, traditional gardens, and a stone monument marking the legendary gathering spot.
¥70 ($9.80) entry. Located 14 km southwest of Shaoxing. Bus from Shaoxing city center.
Practical tips
- The calligraphy museum inside has excellent exhibits. The garden is peaceful and beautiful.
