Sun Island (太阳岛)

Sun Island (太阳岛, Tàiyáng Dǎo) is Harbin's peaceful escape — a large island park in the middle of the Songhua River that hosts the famous Snow Sculpture Expo every winter.

What to See

Snow Sculpture Expo (雪博会) — Every winter, the island hosts massive snow sculptures — some over 20 meters tall. The detail and scale are extraordinary.

Russian Village — A small Russian-style village on the island, with wooden houses, a church, and a museum of Russian culture.

Gardens — In summer, the island is covered in flowers and gardens. The Rose Garden and Peony Garden are especially beautiful.

Wetlands — The island has protected wetlands with bird watching opportunities. Over 100 species of birds visit the island.
