Three Lanes and Seven Hallways (三坊七巷) is one of China's best-preserved historic districts, with narrow lanes and traditional Fujian-style architecture dating back over 1,000 years.
What to See
The district consists of three parallel lanes (坊) and seven connecting hallways (巷) arranged in a grid pattern. Many of the buildings have been restored and converted into museums, tea houses, and shops.
Lin Juemin Memorial (林觉民纪念馆) — Home of the revolutionary martyr who wrote a famous letter to his wife before his execution.
Shen Baozhen Memorial (沈葆桢纪念馆) — Home of the Qing Dynasty diplomat who helped modernize Taiwan.
Yan Fu Memorial (严复纪念馆) — Home of the scholar who translated Western philosophy into Chinese.
The lanes are lined with traditional Fujian shops selling tea, lacquerware, and local snacks.
