Ancient Culture Street (古文化街) is a 687-meter pedestrian street filled with traditional Chinese architecture, craft shops, and food vendors. It's one of Tianjin's most popular tourist destinations and the best place to experience local culture.
What to See and Do
Nirenzhang (泥人张) — Tianjin's famous clay figurine workshop, operating since 1826. Watch artisans create detailed figurines and browse the shop. Prices range from ¥50 ($7) for small pieces to ¥5,000 ($700) for museum-quality works.
Yangliuqing New Year Prints (杨柳青年画) — Traditional woodblock prints used for Chinese New Year decorations. The street has several shops selling these colorful folk art pieces.
Goubuli Baozi (狗不理包子) — The original shop (Number 70) has been serving steamed buns since 1858. Each bun has exactly 18 folds — a signature of quality. ¥30-50 ($4-7) per steamer.
Teahouses and snack stalls — Try Tianjin's street food: Jianbing (煎饼), Erduoyan Zhagao (耳朵眼炸糕), and various candied fruits.
