Tiger Hill (虎丘)

Tiger Hill (虎丘, Hǔ Qiū) is Suzhou's most famous hilltop park — a place of legend, history, and beautiful scenery. The hill has been a place of worship for over 2,500 years.

What to See

Cloud Rock Pagoda — China's leaning tower — built in 1056 AD, it leans 3.5 degrees to the north. You can no longer climb it, but the exterior is magnificent.

Sword Pool — A deep pool legend says hides 3,000 swords buried by the King of Wu. The pool is surrounded by steep rock walls and ancient trees.

Thousand People Rock — A large flat stone where ancient kings addressed their troops. Now a popular spot for photos.

Temple — A small Buddhist temple on the hillside. The incense smoke drifts through the ancient trees.

Practical Tips

• Entry fee: ¥60 ($8)
• The hill is about 3.5km from the city center
• Allow at least 1.5 hours
• The garden behind the hill is often overlooked — worth a visit
