What to See

The Sunrise — The most famous sight in China — the sun breaks through the sea of clouds, illuminating the granite peaks in golden light. The光明顶 (Bright Summit) is the best viewing spot.

The Sea of Clouds — On clear days, a sea of white clouds fills the valleys below the peaks. The peaks emerge like islands in an ocean of mist.

The Pines — Ancient pine trees cling to cliff faces, their twisted branches shaped by centuries of wind. The Guest-Greeting Pine is the most famous.

The Granite Peaks — Jagged granite peaks rise from the clouds — each with a poetic name like "Flying Rock" or "Monkey Watching the Sea."

• Stay overnight on the mountain to catch sunrise
• Book mountain hotels weeks in advance — they sell out fast
