Hongcun Village (宏村)

Hongcun Village (宏村, Hóngcūn) is a 900-year-old village frozen in time — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where white-walled Hui-style houses are reflected in still ponds.

What to See

The Reflecting Ponds — Two crescent-shaped ponds in the center of the village. In the early morning, the white houses are perfectly reflected in the still water — a photographer's dream.

Hui-Style Architecture — White walls, black tiles, and ornate wooden carvings. The Moon Pond is the most photographed spot — a half-moon pond with traditional houses reflected in the water.

The Alleys — Narrow stone alleys wind through the village, past ancient doorways and carved windows. Every corner is a photo opportunity.

The Ancestral Hall — The largest building in the village — a grand hall with carved wooden beams and ancestral tablets. A window into traditional Chinese family life.

• Visit early morning for the best reflections
• The village is less crowded on weekday mornings
