West Lake (西湖)

West Lake (西湖, Xī Hú) is the heart of Hangzhou — a UNESCO World Heritage lake that has inspired Chinese art and poetry for over a thousand years. The lake's beauty changes with every season: spring cherry blossoms, summer lotus, autumn maple leaves, and winter snow on the pagodas.

What to See

Broken Bridge (断桥) — The most famous bridge on West Lake, especially beautiful during snow. Legend says it's where the White Snake legend begins.

Su Causeway (苏堤) — A 2.8km causeway lined with willow trees, built by the Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo. Walk or bike across at sunrise.

Leifeng Pagoda (雷峰塔) — A five-story pagoda overlooking the lake. Climb to the top for panoramic views.

Three Pools Mirroring the Moon (三潭印月) — Three small stone pagodas in the middle of the lake. The best spot for moonlit boat rides.
