Putuozongcheng Temple (普陀宗乘之庙) is a Tibetan-style Buddhist temple complex built in 1767, modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It was built to honor the 60th birthday of Emperor Qianlong and to strengthen ties with Tibetan and Mongolian leaders.
The temple features a massive Red Platform (红台) with golden roofs and Tibetan-style architecture.
Bus 1, 2 from city center. ¥80 ($11).
Practical tips
- The红台 (Red Platform) offers the best views. Visit in the morning for smaller crowds.
