Guangji Gate & Xiangzi Bridge (广济门与湘子桥)

Guangji Gate (广济门, Guǎngjì Mén) is the largest and most impressive city gate in Guangdong Province, and the entrance to Chaozhou's ancient town. Xiangzi Bridge (湘子桥, Xiāngzǐ Qiáo) stretches across the Han River just below — one of China's four famous ancient bridges, dating to the Song Dynasty.

What to See

Guangji Gate — The gate tower offers panoramic views of the ancient town, the river, and Xiangzi Bridge. The gate itself is free to enter; the tower is ¥5 ($0.70). The view from the top is the best introduction to Chaozhou's layout.

Xiangzi Bridge (湘子桥) — Built in the Song Dynasty (1171 AD), this bridge is unique: the central section is a floating bridge made of 18 wooden boats that opens daily to allow river traffic to pass. Walking across the bridge gives you views of the Han River, the ancient town, and the mountains beyond.

Evening Light Show — Every evening at 20:00, the bridge and gate are illuminated with a spectacular light show synchronized to music. It's touristy but genuinely beautiful.
